Mainland and International Collaboration


The Government Chinese Medicines Testing Institute (GCMTI) has been actively organising and participating in various exchange activities to promote co-operation and establish close connections with institutions in the Mainland and overseas, at the same time, to promote harmonisation of reference standards and testing methods for Chinese medicines.

2024
January
  • Hosted the 13th meeting of the International Advisory Board on Hong Kong Chinese Materia Medica Standards (HKCMMS) in Hong Kong for 13 Chinese Materia Medica commonly used in Hong Kong. The meeting brought together more than 20 renowned experts from the Mainland, local and overseas, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Japan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.

  • Attended the 21th Standing Committee Meeting of the Western Pacific Regional Forum for the Harmonization of Herbal Medicines (FHH) held in Vietnam. Reported the latest developments in the regulation of Chinese medicines in Hong Kong.

April
  • Attended the 15th Annual Meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) International Regulatory Cooperation for Herbal Medicines held in Turkey. Reported on the regulatory framework for Chinese medicines in Hong Kong and the latest developments of the HKCMMS.

May
  • Signed the Co-operation Agreement on Research of Chinese Medicines Standards and on Chinese Medicines Herbarium with the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC), a subsidiary of the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), to strengthen technical, talent and academic exchanges, and further promote the modernisation and innovation of Chinese medicines.

  • Delegation of the NMPA and the NIFDC visited the GCMTI.

  • Delegation from the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China visited the GCMTI.

  • Delegation led by Mr. Wen Guohui, Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference visited the GCMTI.

August
  • Attended the meeting of the Professional Committee of Chinese Medicine Digitalisation under the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine (the Committee) held in Shenzhen to strengthen research and collaboration among drug testing research institutes and experts of Hong Kong and various Mainland provinces and municipalities in the area of Chinese medicines specimen digitalisation and identification. Served as vice-chairman and member in the Committee.

September
  • Attended the China (Guangxi) – Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) training seminar on traditional medicines supervision and standards research held in Nanning, Guangxi. Introduced the HKCMMS and the latest developments in the regulation and standards of Chinese medicines in Hong Kong.

  • Signed the Co-operation Arrangement on Research for Quality Testing and Standards of Chinese Medicines with the Experimental Research Center of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, a subsidiary organisation under the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing. The Agreements reinforces exchange and collaboration, jointly promote the modernisation and innovation of Chinese medicines, as well as the advancement of high-quality development of Chinese medicines.

  • Co-organised the 2024 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Conference on testing of Chinese medicines in Macau with permanent secretariat of the FHH, the Macao Centre for Testing of Chinese Medicine, University of Macau and Guangdong Institute for Drug Control. Delivered opening remarks and reporting on research work of GCMTI.

  • Co-organised the 2024 GBA Medical Products Administration Conference in Zhuhai with Guangdong Provincial Medical Products Administration and the Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau of the Macao SAR Government. Representatives from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau exchanged views and provided progress updates one the Chinese medicine Standards for the GBA.

  • Supported the WHO in holding a meeting on the development of an International Herbal Pharmacopoeia (IHP) in Hong Kong, during which the roadmap for developing the IHP and other related issues in IHP development, such as the draft outline, scope and framework of the IHP, as well as the working mechanism for this development were discussed.

  • Delegation from the Guangzhou Municipal Administration for Market Regulation visited the GCMTI.

  • Attended the 2024 World Conference on Traditional Medicine in Beijing to exchange with attendees on various issues, among other, of scientific research on traditional medicine
